This project completes the facilities at the Watergate Bay Hotel by providing spa and pool facilities, a new entrance area and a 'boot room' for the hotel's extreme sports academy. Our proposal responded to the clifftop site with an irregular faceted form which maximised the amount of accommodation given the site restrictions, as well as becoming a new 'natural' feature in the landscape. Super-insulated pre-fabricated timber panels enable swift construction in a tight area and a biomass boiler, solar thermal collectors, air and water heat recovery and rainwater harvesting provide an extremely sustainable building.
