Victoria Road
Project location: Cambridge, UK
Client: Private Client
Size: 165m²
Estimated contract value: £100,000
Structural Engineer: Price and Myers
Timescale: Due to complete December 2009
This project transforms a dilapidated four storey Victorian house into a modern family home. The basement is opened up and extended to become a large family room which leads directly through bi-folding doors into the garden. A three-storey brick extension above will provide modern bathrooms to the bedrooms as well as resolving an awkward existing stair. The full height glazing to the bathrooms will be made translucent through the use of a pattern designed by the client, who is an illustrator. The local planning authority described this proposal as 'modern but sensitive to the surrounding area'.
