Fowey Sailing School
Project Location: Cornwall, UK
Client: Fowey Sailing School
Size: 630m²
Estimated contract value: £900,000
Structural Engineer: Price and Myers
Sustainability Consultant: Buro Happold
Timescale: Due to be completed December 2009
On an inlet of the River Fowey in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this project will provide new teaching facilities and holiday accommodation for Fowey Sailing School. These will be converted from an existing agricultural building through the insertion of new courtyard spaces, reducing the apparent bulk and allowing daylight and natural ventilation into the centre of the building. A greywater management system, sedum roof, super-insulation and heat recovery ventilation system will further reduce the environmental impact of the scheme. The project is a prototypical architectural strategy for converting redundant agricultural buildings to positive local uses.
