Mid Cornwall Clay Country Ecotown
A new Ecotown in Cornwall
Project Location: St Austell, Cornwall, UK
Client: Ecobos
Size: 1200m² (pilot scheme)
Estimated contract value: £1,200,000 (pilot scheme)
Structure and Services Engineer: Buro Happold
Sustainability Consultant: Fulcrum Consulting
Masterplan Architect: Lacey Hickie Caley
Timescale: Pilot scheme to completed by 2012
We are working alongside five other architects to create housing designs for a new Ecotown in Cornwall. Developed by the Ecobos consortium, the town was one of only four schemes chosen by the government in 2009 to receive confirmed funding. The scheme will eventually contain 5,000 homes, as well as facilities for the community and businesses, and will be carbon neutral in net terms. Initially we will be building a mixture of detached and terraced houses as part of a pilot scheme. These will provide an opportunity to showcase how innovative construction and sustainable techniques can be integrated with the local vernacular to provide a new community.
